Greater Bay Airlines joins IATA as airline member

Ms Liza Ng, Chief Operating Officer of Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) (left), receives the IATA membership certificate on behalf of the airline from Mr Willie Walsh, Director General of IATA, at the World Cargo Symposium currently held in Hong Kong.

(13 March 2024) Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) is pleased to announce that the airline has become a member of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) following the successful completion of the prerequisite certification process of the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA). The IATA membership will enable GBA to begin collaborating with other member airlines bilaterally on various aspects such as interline and codeshare arrangements.

Mr Wong Cho Bau, Chairman of GBA, said, “We are delighted to attain the IATA membership which is a recognition of GBA’s uncompromising commitment to flight safety. As the youngest Hong Kong-based airline, GBA shares the IATA vision of working together to shape the future growth of a safe, secure and sustainable air transport industry.”

IOSA is an internationally recognised and accepted evaluation system designed to assess the operational management and control systems of an airline. Utilising a risk-based model, IOSA creates a standard that is comparable on a world-wide basis, enabling and maximising the joint use of audit reports. An important part of IOSA is the establishment of a Safety Management System that helps airlines identify and mitigate safety risks with an ultimate objective of improving safety performance. All IATA members must remain IOSA registered to maintain the IATA membership. Currently, there are more than 425 operators on the IOSA registry, including about 100 non-IATA members.

Founded in 1945, IATA is the trade association for the world’s leading passenger and cargo airlines, representing some 320 airlines from over 120 countries or 83% of the global air traffic. It supports many areas of aviation activity and helps formulate industry policy on critical aviation issues.

GBA commenced scheduled service in July 2022 and is currently operating flights between Hong Kong and Bangkok, Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Manila, etc. with a fleet of seven Boeing 737-800 aircraft. The service to Singapore will commence on 26 April 2024. For more information, please visit www.greaterbay-airlines.com.
