Greater Bay Airlines celebrates the inaugural flight to Tokyo

(12 January 2023) Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) today held the inaugural ceremony of its Hong Kong – Tokyo service at the Hong Kong International Airport to celebrate the launch of the airline’s third destination of its network. This new scheduled service will operate daily between Hong Kong and Tokyo (Narita International Airport).

The ceremony was officiated by Mr Wong Cho Bau, Chairman of GBA; Mr Stanley Hui Hon-chung, Chief Executive Officer of GBA; Professor Arthur Li Kwok-cheung, Director of GBA, together with Mr Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the HKSAR; Mr Kevin Yeung Yun-hung, Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism of the HKSAR; Mr Algernon Yau Ying-wah, Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the HKSAR; Mr Jack So Chak-kwong, Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong; Dr Peter Lam Kin-ngok, Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, and a number of distinguished industry leaders.   

Mr Wong Cho Bau, Chairman of GBA, said at the ceremony, “We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the HKSAR Government for negotiating with the Japanese authorities so that our Hong Kong – Tokyo service can be launched as scheduled today. As a young airline in Hong Kong, we will continue to strive for excellence in an innovative way for our valued customers.”

Mr Lam Sai-hung, Secretary for Transport and Logistics of the HKSAR, said, “I believe that the continuous development of the Greater Bay Airlines will provide more diversified aviation services to passengers and help enhance the air transport network between Hong Kong, or the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the rest of the world, bringing a positive impact on the role of Hong Kong as an international aviation hub as outlined in the National 14th Five-year Plan.”

Mr Jack So Chak-kwong, Chairman of Airport Authority Hong Kong, said, “I am pleased to witness today the addition of a new route by Greater Bay Airlines, providing passengers with more choices. The expansion of air network by local carriers is very important for Hong Kong International Airport to further consolidate its status as an aviation hub. I look forward to the launch of more new routes by local airlines in the near future.”
