Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs unveils Greater Bay Area Aircraft

The aircraft features the slogan of “Leveraging Hong Kong’s Strengths. Developing a First-class Greater Bay Area” on its fuselage.

Initiated by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Office of the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, the creative concept aims to promote the visions and opportunities of the developments in the Greater Bay Area, together with Hong Kong’s role in connecting the Mainland with the world, to Hong Kong residents and the audience in the Mainland and overseas markets.

(2 June 2025) Mr Erick Tsang Kwok-wai, Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, and Ms Maisie Chan, Commissioner for the Development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, accompanied by Ms Liza Ng, Chief Executive Officer of Greater Bay Airlines, and Mr Stephen Loh, Chief Operating Officer of Greater Bay Airlines, unveiled the Greater Bay Area Aircraft at the apron of Hong Kong International Airport this morning. The aircraft features the slogan of “Leveraging Hong Kong’s Strengths. Developing a First-class Greater Bay Area” on its fuselage.
Initiated by the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Development Office of the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau, the creative concept aims to promote the visions and opportunities of the developments in the Greater Bay Area, together with Hong Kong’s role in connecting the Mainland with the world, to Hong Kong residents and the audience in the Mainland and overseas markets. This aircraft will mainly be deployed to routes between Hong Kong and various destinations in Mainland China and Asia.
“We are very excited to participate in this meaningful campaign. Operating daily to different destinations, the aircraft will help overseas people appreciate the visions of the Greater Bay Area and encourage them to play a part in its development,” said Ms Liza Ng, Chief Executive Officer of Greater Bay Airlines. “Our airline was established in support of the Central Government’s national strategy for developing the Greater Bay Area that helps integrate Hong Kong into Mainland China’s overall development, leveraging Hong Kong’s distinctive advantages of ‘enjoying strong support of the Motherland and being closely connected to the world’ as well as its status as an international aviation hub.”
The Greater Bay Area comprises the two Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macao, and the nine municipalities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Huizhou, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen and Zhaoqing in Guangdong Province. The total area is around 56,000 square kilometres. The total population in the Area is more than 87 million and the GDP is over RMB 14 trillion in 2024.
On 1 July 2017, witnessed by President Xi Jinping, the National Development and Reform Commission and the governments of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao signed the Framework Agreement on Deepening Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation in the Development of the Greater Bay Area, that sets out the goals and principles of cooperation and establishes the key cooperation areas in the development of the Area. The promulgation of the Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area on 18 February 2019 signified yet another milestone.
A value carrier based in Hong Kong, GBA commenced scheduled service in July 2022 and is currently operating flights between Hong Kong and Bangkok, Taipei, Tokyo, Osaka, Yonago, Tokushima, Sendai, Manila, Zhoushan, Huangshan, Yichang, Guilin and Zhangjiajie with a fleet of eight Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
