Greater Bay Airlines’ inaugural flight to Zhoushan warmly welcomed by the local government
Greater Bay Airlines commenced scheduled service to Zhoushan in Zhejiang Province this morning. Accompanied by the airline’s Chairman Mr Wong Cho Bau (fourth right), CEO Ms Liza Ng (third left) and Board Member Mr Stanley Hui (third right), Hong Kong SAR Government’s Under Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mr Liu Chun San (fourth left), Political Assistant to the Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mr Alfred Chan (second right), and Airport Authority Hong Kong’s Assistant General Manager, Air Network Development Mr Ricky Chong (second left) joined a trip to Zhoushan on the inaugural flight.
To celebrate the inaugural flight, the Zhoushan Municipal People's Government hosted a welcome ceremony including a water salute upon arrival of the flight at Zhoushan Putuoshan International Airport. Officiating at the ceremony were: Mr Fang Tiedao, Vice Mayor of Zhoushan Municipal People’s Government (middle); Mr Liu Chun San, Under Secretary for Transport and Logistics of Hong Kong SAR Government (sixth right); Mr Alfred Chan, Political Assistant to the Secretary for Transport and Logistics of Hong Kong SAR Government (second right); Ven Kuan Yun, President of The Hong Kong Buddhist Association (fifth right); Miss Lily Chow, Chairlady of Zhoushan Residents Association (Hong Kong) (second left); Mr Feng Jianhan, Party Committee Member of Zhejiang Airport Group (fourth right); Mr Wang Xingyue, President of Zhoushan Putuoshan International Airport (first left); Mr Wong Cho Bau, Chairman of East Pacific Group and Chairman of Greater Bay Airlines (sixth left); Mr Albert Li, Vice Chairman of East Pacific Group (first right); Mr Stanley Hui, Board Member, Greater Bay Airlines (third right); and Ms Liza Ng, CEO, Greater Bay Airlines (third left).
(7 November 2024) Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) commenced scheduled service to Zhoushan in Zhejiang Province this morning. Accompanied by the airline’s Chairman Mr Wong Cho Bau, CEO Ms Liza Ng and Board Member Mr Stanley Hui, Hong Kong SAR Government’s Under Secretary for Transport and Logistics Mr Liu Chun San, Airport Authority Hong Kong’s Assistant General Manager, Air Network Development Mr Ricky Chong, The Hong Kong Buddhist Association President Ven Kuan Yun and Zhoushan Residents Association (Hong Kong) Chairlady Miss Lily Chow joined a trip to Zhoushan on the inaugural flight. The new service will operate three times a week between Hong Kong and Zhoushan.

Putuoshan in Zhoushan is one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains in China. The statue of Goddess of Mercy (also known as Guanyin), 18 metres high and the largest outdoor Guanyin statue in Asia, together with the grand temples, such as Puji Temple, Fayu Temple and Huiji Temple, make Zhoushan a famous holiday destination that attracted more than 17 million local and international tourists including many from Hong Kong in 2023. With the launch of this new route, many more Buddhists and visitors are anticipated from Hong Kong and all over the world.

A value carrier based in Hong Kong, GBA commenced scheduled service in July 2022 and is currently operating flights between Hong Kong and Bangkok, Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Yonago and Manila with a fleet of eight Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
