Greater Bay Airlines adds Sendai as its fifth Japanese destination today
Greater Bay Airlines further expanded its network in Japan by adding Sendai as its fifth Japanese destination today, following the launch of the Tokushima route in November. This new regular route operates four times a week, every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, bringing greater flexibility and convenience to travellers, who no longer need to take a Shinkansen train or a transfer flight from major cities such as Tokyo and Osaka.
A ceremony was hosted at Sendai International Airport this afternoon to celebrate the inaugural flight. Officiating at the ceremony included Ms Winsome Au, Principal Representative of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo), Hong Kong SAR Government (seventh left); Mr Yoshihiro Murai, Governor of the Miyagi Prefectural Government (sixth left); Mr Shinichi Takahashi, Vice Mayor of Sendai City (sixth right); Mr Motoi Maeda, CEO of Sendai International Airport (first left); and Ms Liza Ng, CEO of GBA (middle).
(7 December 2024) Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) further expanded its network in Japan by adding Sendai as its fifth Japanese destination today, following the launch of the Tokushima route in November. Converted from a summer charter service, this regular route operates four times a week, every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday, bringing greater flexibility and convenience to travellers, who no longer need to take a Shinkansen train or a transfer flight from major cities such as Tokyo and Osaka.
A ceremony was hosted at Sendai International Airport this afternoon to celebrate the inaugural flight. Officiating at the ceremony included Ms Winsome Au, Principal Representative of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo), Hong Kong SAR Government; Mr Yoshihiro Murai, Governor of the Miyagi Prefectural Government; Mr Shinichi Takahashi, Vice Mayor of Sendai City; Mr Motoi Maeda, CEO of Sendai International Airport; and Ms Liza Ng, CEO of GBA. Passengers of the inaugural flight were all given a souvenir pack to mark this commemorative moment.
As the capital of Miyagi Prefecture and the largest city in the northeastern part of Japan, Sendai is well known for its samurai history displayed in well-preserved architectural treasures, for example, Zuihoden, the mausoleum of feudal lord Date Masamune. A visit to the mysterious Zao Fox Village, where foxes wander freely, is also a unique experience for visitors.

A value carrier based in Hong Kong, GBA commenced scheduled service in July 2022 and is currently operating flights between Hong Kong and Bangkok, Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, Osaka, Yonago, Tokushima, Sendai, Manila, Zhoushan and Huangshan with a fleet of eight Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
